Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
भृत्यातिथिजनश्चवापि गृहे पर्यशितो मया । मात्सर्यात् स्वादुकामेन नृशंसेन बुभुक्षता
bhṛtyātithijanaś cāpi gṛhe paryaśito mayā | mātsaryāt svādukāmena nṛśaṃsena bubhukṣatā ||
Tôi ăn no nê trong nhà, dù khi ấy có đầy tớ, khách khứa và những người nương tựa đang hiện diện. Bị thúc đẩy bởi lòng ganh ghét, chỉ ham khoái khẩu, và chai sạn bởi sự tàn nhẫn cùng cơn đói, tôi ăn mà không hề cho những người đến nhà tôi và những kẻ trông cậy vào tôi được ăn trước.
