Death is naturally feared and unwanted by all beings; the involuntary trembling at the moment of death highlights universal vulnerability, urging ethical restraint and compassion in one’s conduct toward living creatures.
In Bhishma’s instruction to Yudhiṣṭhira in the Anuśāsana Parva, he emphasizes the common dread of death experienced by all beings, using the sign of bodily trembling at death to support a moral point about sensitivity to suffering.
