Moderation and disciplined restraint (taking a single daily meal during Pauṣa) is praised as a dharmic practice that yields auspiciousness, admirable presence, and good reputation—linking ethical self-control with inner and outer well-being.
In Anuśāsana Parva’s instruction-focused setting, the sage Aṅgirā addresses Kaunteya (Yudhiṣṭhira) and enumerates the fruits of specific monthly observances; here he states the merit gained by observing ekabhakta (one-meal discipline) throughout the month of Pauṣa.
