Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)
तां देवदेव: प्रीतात्मा पुनः प्राह शुभं वचः । पञ्चकृत्वस्त्वयोक्तो5हं पतिं देहीति वै पुनः:,तब देवाधिदेव महादेवजीने मन-ही-मन अत्यन्त संतुष्ट होकर उससे यह शुभ वचन कहा--'भद्रे! तुमने 'पति दीजिये” इस वाक्यको पाँच बार दुहराया है; इसलिये मैंने जो पहले कहा है, वैसा ही होगा, तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। किंतु तुम्हें दूसरे शरीरमें प्रवेश करनेपर यह सब होगा”
tāṃ devadevaḥ prītātmā punaḥ prāha śubhaṃ vacaḥ | pañcakṛtvas tvayokto 'haṃ patiṃ dehīti vai punaḥ ||
Đấng Thần của các thần, lòng hoan hỷ, lại nói với nàng lời cát tường: “Hỡi người thiếu nữ hiền hòa, nàng đã lặp lại lời thỉnh cầu ‘xin ban cho thiếp một phu quân’ đến năm lần. Vì thế, điều ta đã tuyên trước kia nhất định sẽ ứng nghiệm nơi nàng—nguyện đó là phúc lành cho nàng. Nhưng việc ấy chỉ thành tựu khi nàng nhập vào một thân khác.”
