Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how kingship depends not only on birth and power but also on public confidence and perceived dharmic legitimacy; ignoring elders and rightful conduct destabilizes rule and fuels conflict.

Duryodhana reports to his father Dhṛtarāṣṭra that he has overheard the citizens speaking ominously and expressing a desire to make the Pāṇḍava—implicitly Yudhiṣṭhira—the ruler, even at the cost of disregarding Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Bhīṣma.
