Suta
This opening verse frames the chapter as Purāṇic transmission (śravaṇa) by Sūta—an act treated as a dharmic upāsanā that purifies the paśu (individual soul) and prepares the mind for devotion to Pati, Śiva, even when the immediate topic is royal lineage.
Śiva-tattva is implicit: the Liṅga Purāṇa’s authority rests on guiding the listener from worldly history (vamśa, rājadharma) toward liberation from pāśa (bondage) through right understanding and disciplined hearing—ultimately oriented to Pati, the supreme Lord.
The practice emphasized is śravaṇa (attentive hearing) with anupūrvyā (proper sequence) and saṃkṣepa (essential grasp), which functions as a preparatory discipline aligned with Shaiva sādhanā—steady attention that supports later Pāśupata-oriented teachings.
