Śrāddha-vidhi for Pitṛs: Invitations, Purity, Offerings, and Conduct
Sūta (narrating traditional dharma teachings as taught by sages in the Kurma Purana context)
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Indirectly: it teaches that dharma (right conduct) sustains the cosmic and ancestral order; honoring sacred obligations purifies the mind, which is a prerequisite for realizing the Atman taught elsewhere in the Kurma Purana’s yoga and Ishvara-centered teachings.
No direct yogic technique is taught; the verse emphasizes yama-like ethical discipline—keeping one’s vow and honoring a ritual commitment—which the Kurma Purana treats as supportive groundwork for higher sādhana (including Pāśupata-oriented devotion and yoga).
This verse is primarily pitṛ- and śrāddha-focused; its broader Purāṇic message aligns with the Kurma Purana’s synthesis by presenting dharma as a shared sacred framework upheld across Śaiva and Vaiṣṇava streams, preparing the devotee for Ishvara-bhakti and yoga.
