Một người Bà-la-môn không tu học thánh điển sẽ lụi tàn như lửa rơm. Do đó, không nên dâng vật tế cho người ấy, vì không ai đổ vật tế vào tro tàn.
Kurma (Vishnu) instructing sages on dharma (svadhyaya as brahminical tapas)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: karuna
Indirectly: it frames svādhyāya as a necessary discipline for clarity and continuity of sacred knowledge through which the Atman-Brahman teaching is preserved and realized; without it, spiritual potency ‘cools’ like a fire that has become ash.
Svādhyāya (scriptural recitation and contemplative study) is emphasized as a form of tapas supporting dharma and inner purification—foundational to Kurma Purana’s broader sādhanā (including Shaiva-Vaishnava synthesis and later Pāśupata-oriented discipline).
It does not name Shiva directly; instead it presents a shared dharmic standard—discipline, purity, and eligibility for ritual—which both Shaiva and Vaishnava traditions uphold in the Kurma Purana’s integrative framework.
