Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Ten principal nāḍīs as foundational conduits within the body.

Vedantic Theme: Instrumentality of the body-mind complex (antaḥkaraṇa with prāṇa) as a locus for discipline; knowledge as a step toward mastery (saṃyama).

Application: In breathwork/meditation, contemplate centrality of suṣumṇā and balance of lateral currents; use the ‘tenfold’ idea to cultivate systematic self-observation rather than vague practice.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: body-microcosm

FAQs

This verse identifies specific nāḍīs as part of the ten principal subtle channels within the body, implying that the soul’s embodied experience and post-death transitions are linked to an inner network of subtle pathways.

By locating the chief nāḍīs within the piṇḍa (body), the text frames the subtle-body ‘infrastructure’ through which life-forces and consciousness operate—background knowledge used in the Preta Kanda to explain how the jīva disengages from embodiment.

It encourages a respectful view of the body as a sacred vessel with subtle functions, supporting disciplined living (purity, restraint, and mindful rituals) that align one’s inner energies with dharma.
