This verse states that firm, resolute giving is a key dharmic support that prevents the soul from falling into the condition called pretatva (the preta-state).
It implies that the post-death condition is shaped by dharma—especially steadfast dāna—suggesting that meritorious acts help the departed avoid becoming a restless preta.
Practice sincere, consistent charity and support dharmic causes—especially in remembrance of the departed—while keeping one’s life grounded in ethical conduct.
