Ritual Type: Parvana

Beneficiary: Pitr

Timing: During śrāddha performance when offerings are apportioned

Concept: Offering separate piṇḍas for husband and wife prevents mahādoṣa; scriptural assurance removes fear of contamination in complex cases.

Vedantic Theme: Śāstra-pramāṇa: right action guided by authoritative word dispels doubt (saṃśaya) and fear (bhaya).

FAQs

This verse states that when husband and wife perform the piṇḍa offering separately, they do not incur “mahādoṣa” (grave ritual fault), indicating the rite is considered properly aligned with dharma.

In the Preta Kanda context, piṇḍa-dāna supports the departed and aligns the living with Pitṛ obligations; the verse emphasizes correct performance so the rite aids the post-death process without creating additional karmic or ritual impediments.

If participating in śrāddha or piṇḍa-dāna, follow tradition-led procedure (often guided by a priest) and perform offerings with clarity of role and intention, prioritizing sincerity and dharmic correctness in ancestral rites.
