Sūta nói: “Từ ‘pūrva’ được nêu theo các nghĩa ‘trước’, ‘những người trước’, ‘từ cái trước’ và ‘trong cái trước’. Hình thức đã thành tựu, nơi suP (hậu tố cách của danh từ) và tiṅ (hậu tố của động từ) chấm dứt, chỉ được gợi bằng tên gọi; nhưng Kātyāyana, sau khi nghe từ Kumāra, đã giảng giải rộng rãi.”

Concept: Śabda-śāstra: meaning and form are systematized; grammatical categories (sup/tiṅ) and derivational understanding are transmitted through authoritative teachers.
Vedantic Theme: Śabda as pramāṇa (means of knowledge) and the disciplined use of language for right understanding.
Application: Study foundational grammar/metrics to preserve textual integrity; apply careful semantic analysis before drawing doctrinal conclusions.
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: shanta
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.207 (immediately following chandas/śāstra exposition; internal continuity)
The verse references the foundational grammatical framework where nouns take suP case-endings and verbs take tiṅ endings, indicating that a standard linguistic form was only briefly named and later elaborated in detail.
It shows the Purana’s inclusion of technical, traditional learning—here, a brief mention of a grammatical point followed by attribution to an authoritative explanatory lineage (Kumāra → Kātyāyana).
It encourages careful study: brief labels and summaries are useful, but deeper understanding comes from detailed explanations and learning within a reliable tradition.
