Khi vị mặn (lavaṇa) bị dùng quá mức, nó làm bế tắc các kinh lạc/đường dẫn trong thân và gây nhão mềm. Nó sinh ngứa ở tay chân, trướng bụng, phù thũng và biến sắc; lại còn gây các chứng như raktavāta, pittarakta, cùng những bệnh làm tổn hại dương lực và các căn (giác quan), v.v.
