हनस्तम्भः स तेन स्यात्कृच्छ्राच्चर्वणभाषणम् / वाग्वादिनी शिरास्तम्भो जिह्वां स्तम्भयते ऽनिलः

Dosha: Vata
Concept: Functional dependence: when vāta obstructs movement, essential human capacities (speech, eating) are curtailed.
Vedantic Theme: upādhi-baddhatā (limitations imposed by bodily conditions)
Application: Treat early signs of jaw/tongue stiffness; protect speech and diet routines; avoid behaviors that aggravate vāta and strain the head-neck region.
Primary Rasa: karuna
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
Type: bodily locus (organs/channels)
Related Themes: Garuda Purana 1.166.28 (vāta at jaw root); Garuda Purana 1.166.30 (jihvāstambha causes and consequences)
It denotes a named speech-disturbance condition in which vāta affects speech, here linked with tongue immobilization.
It is not an afterlife passage; it teaches how vāta imbalance can impair speech and movement, reinforcing the Garuda Purana’s broader emphasis on disciplined living.
If speech, chewing, or tongue movement becomes difficult, treat it as a serious imbalance sign—reduce aggravating factors and seek timely clinical evaluation while supporting vāta-calming habits.
