Kṛṣṇa Defeats Bāṇāsura and Receives Śiva’s Prayers
The Śoṇitapura Battle and the Jvara Episode
स्कन्द: प्रद्युम्नबाणौघैरर्द्यमान: समन्तत: । असृग् विमुञ्चन् गात्रेभ्य: शिखिनापक्रमद् रणात् ॥ १५ ॥
skandaḥ pradyumna-bāṇaughair ardyamānaḥ samantataḥ asṛg vimuñcan gātrebhyaḥ śikhināpakramad raṇāt
Bị mưa tên của Pradyumna bắn dồn từ bốn phía, thần Skanda đau đớn; máu tuôn từ thân thể, liền cưỡi chim công rút khỏi chiến trường.
In this verse, Śukadeva describes that Skanda, overwhelmed by Pradyumna’s arrow-showers and bleeding from his limbs, withdrew from the fight on his peacock mount.
Because Pradyumna’s arrows struck him from every side, causing him to bleed; unable to withstand the assault, Skanda pulled back from the battle.
It highlights perseverance and strategic withdrawal—when overwhelmed, one may step back, regroup, and return with clarity rather than acting from pride or impulse.
