Indra Slays Namuci—The Limits of Power and the Triumph of Divine Strategy
न शुष्केण न चार्द्रेण जहार नमुचे: शिर: । तं तुष्टुवुर्मुनिगणा माल्यैश्चावाकिरन्विभुम् ॥ ४० ॥
na śuṣkeṇa na cārdreṇa jahāra namuceḥ śiraḥ taṁ tuṣṭuvur muni-gaṇā mālyaiś cāvākiran vibhum
Vì thế, Indra đã chém đầu Namuci không bằng vật khô hay ướt, mà bằng bọt. Rồi các bậc hiền triết hoan hỷ tán thán Indra và rải hoa cùng vòng hoa xuống, gần như phủ kín vị tôn quý ấy.
In this regard, the śruti-mantras say, apāṁ phenena namuceḥ śira indro ’dārayat: Indra killed Namuci with watery foam, which is neither moist nor dry.

This verse states that Indra severed Namuci’s head in a way that was neither dry nor wet—fulfilling the condition of Namuci’s boon while still defeating him.
