It provides a nama-stuti (name-litany) of Gaṇeśa—used as an auspicious invocation at the start of worship, recitation, vows, and other rites to ensure unobstructed completion.
By cataloging deity-epithets in a mantra-like format, it functions as a compact ritual tool within the Purana’s broader coverage of worship procedures, hymns, and practical religious observances.
Remembering and praising Gaṇeśa through his names is traditionally held to remove impediments (vighna), purify intention, and secure auspicious beginnings, supporting the merit (puṇya) of subsequent practices.
