Narration of the Origin of the Kurus and the Pāṇḍavas, and Related Matters
Lord Agni (narrating Purāṇic history to Vasiṣṭha)

Related Themes:
It conveys rajadharma in practice: the protection and administration of a kingdom during succession, highlighting Bhīṣma’s celibate status and duty-bound governance.
Alongside ritual and technical topics, the Agni Purana preserves dynastic-epic history (Itihāsa/Purāṇic genealogy), providing political and ethical context for dharma and kingship.
The verse underscores dharmic responsibility: steadfast duty (protecting the realm) and self-restraint (bhāryā-vivarjita) are portrayed as spiritually elevating ideals even amid royal tragedy.
