Suta Goswami (narrating Shiva’s nature and pedagogy to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It teaches that Śiva, the compassionate Pati (Lord), is beyond the dualities of merit and sin, yet may allow or give hardship to mature the devotee—turning the soul inward toward surrender, purification, and liberation.
In Saguna worship—especially Linga-upāsanā—the devotee learns to see both सुख and दुःख as Śiva’s instruction. The Linga symbolizes the steady, transcendent Śiva who is unaffected by dualities, while guiding the devotee through them toward grace.
Maintain steady japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) during adversity, coupled with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and simple Linga worship, cultivating the attitude that hardship is a parīkṣā meant to deepen bhakti and detachment.
