Account of Śiva’s Śārabha Manifestation and the Measureless Avatāras
प्रसिद्धं च यदा यस्य दुःखं च जायते प्रभो । तदा त्वन्नाममात्रेण सर्वदुःखं विलीयते
prasiddhaṃ ca yadā yasya duḥkhaṃ ca jāyate prabho | tadā tvannāmamātreṇa sarvaduḥkhaṃ vilīyate
اے پرَبھُو، جب کسی پر غم و دکھ آ پڑے، تو آپ کے نام کی محض صدا سے ہی سارا دکھ مٹ کر تحلیل ہو جاتا ہے۔
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not site-specific; it articulates a general Śaiva doctrine of nāma-smaraṇa: the Lord’s name functions as a direct conduit of grace that dissolves दुःख.
Significance: Encourages nāma-japa as universally accessible sādhana; promises relief from sorrow and inner purification, aligning with temple and household devotion alike.
Mantra: नमः शिवाय
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It teaches that Shiva’s Name is not merely a sound but a living support for the bound soul (paśu); through sincere remembrance (nāma-japa), suffering born of bondage (pāśa) is pacified and the mind turns toward Shiva, the liberator (Pati).
The verse highlights Saguna upāsanā through the accessible form of Shiva’s Name; like Linga worship, nāma-japa is a concrete practice that gathers devotion, steadies attention, and connects the devotee to Shiva’s grace.
Regular Shiva nāma-japa—especially the Panchakshara mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—done with faith, purity, and steady repetition (mentally or aloud), is implied as the direct remedy for distress.
