संध्याचरित्रवर्णनम् (Sandhyā-caritra-varṇanam) — “Narration of Sandhyā’s Austerity and Encounter with Śiva”
ब्रह्मोवाच । इति श्रुत्वा महेशस्य प्रसन्नमनसस्तदा । संध्योवाच सुप्रसन्ना प्रणम्य च मुहुर्मुहुः
brahmovāca | iti śrutvā maheśasya prasannamanasastadā | saṃdhyovāca suprasannā praṇamya ca muhurmuhuḥ
برہما نے کہا—اس وقت خوش و خرم اور پُرسکون دل والے مہیش کے کلام کو سن کر، نہایت مسرور سندھیا نے بار بار پرنام کر کے کہا۔
Brahma
Role: teaching
The verse highlights a core Shaiva principle: when Mahēśa is प्रसन्न (graciously pleased), the devotee’s natural response is humble surrender—repeated pranāma—showing that receptivity to Śiva’s grace deepens devotion and right understanding.
Saṃdhyā’s repeated bowing reflects Saguna-Śiva devotion expressed through embodied reverence (namaskāra). In Linga-worship too, listening to Śiva’s teachings and responding with repeated acts of homage is a key devotional posture that invites anugraha (divine grace).
A simple takeaway is repeated प्रणाम (prostration) with attentive listening (śravaṇa) to Śiva-kathā; it pairs well with japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) as an inner form of “again and again” surrender.
