वीरभद्र–देवयुद्धवर्णनम्
Vīrabhadra and the Battle with the Devas
ततो यज्ञोद्भुतं तेजः प्रलयानलसन्निभम् । त्रैलोक्यदाहकं तीव्रं वीराणामपि भीकरम्
tato yajñodbhutaṃ tejaḥ pralayānalasannibham | trailokyadāhakaṃ tīvraṃ vīrāṇāmapi bhīkaram
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the Satī-khaṇḍa account to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Role: destructive
Cosmic Event: pralaya-conflagration imagery (pralayanala)
It warns that ritual power (yajña-śakti) divorced from devotion and humility can turn into destructive force; in Shaiva Siddhanta, true auspiciousness arises when action is offered to Pati (Śiva) and purified of ego.
The verse contrasts mere outward ritual with rightful orientation toward Śiva; Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship centers the sacrifice of ego itself, so sacred fire becomes transformative rather than world-burning.
Adopt Śiva-oriented purification: apply Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) with reverence, repeat the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” and perform any ritual as an offering that dissolves pride rather than inflaming it.
