Hearing the Heavenly Voice; The Gaṇas Seek Refuge; Account of Satī’s Self-Immolation
apamānaṃ viśeṣeṇa tasmin yajñe mahāprabho | dakṣādyāste'khilā duṣṭā akurvan garvitā ati
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pasha
Offering: naivedya
The verse highlights that ritual (yajña) becomes spiritually barren when driven by pride and malice; in Shaiva Siddhanta, ego and disrespect are forms of pāśa (bondage) that block Shiva’s grace (anugraha).
Dakṣa’s arrogance represents worship performed without devotion to Saguna Shiva; true Linga-bhakti requires humility and honoring Shiva’s supremacy, not merely external sacrificial display.
A practical takeaway is to avoid aparādha (offence) in worship and cultivate humility through japa of the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya,” offered with reverence rather than ego.
