Sūta Gosvāmin (traditional Purāṇic narrator concluding the chapter for the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Sthala Purana: Colophon verse concluding the chapter on Satī’s deha-tyāga and the ensuing cosmic/social upheaval; it frames the Dakṣa-yajña crisis that later culminates in Rudra’s intervention and restoration of dharma.
Significance: Textual marker: signals a liminal turning-point where adharma in ritual (yajña) triggers divine response; used in kathā-traditions to emphasize humility and Śiva-bhakti as the safeguard of sacrifice.
Shakti Form: Satī
Role: liberating
Cosmic Event: Ritual-cosmic disturbance (upadrava) following Satī’s self-abandonment; a narrative prelude to Rudra’s wrath and reordering.
This is a concluding colophon marking the completion of a chapter that frames Satī’s body-abandonment as a pivotal karmic and cosmic turning point, emphasizing the gravity of dharma, devotion, and the consequences of sacrilege against Śiva and His devotees.
Though not a ritual instruction itself, it closes a narrative unit that intensifies devotion to Saguna Śiva—showing how disrespect toward Śiva leads to upheaval and how refuge in Śiva (often approached through Liṅga-worship) becomes the stabilizing path.
As a chapter-colophon it does not prescribe a specific rite, but the chapter’s theme traditionally supports practices of Śiva-bhakti such as japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and reverent Śiva-pūjā to avoid offense (aparādha) and cultivate surrender.
