The Making of the Durgopavīta and Pārvatī’s Auspicious Adornment Festival
evaṃ parasparaṃ tau vai pārvvatīparameśvarau | arcayantau tadānīñca śuśubhāte jaganmayau
Sūta Gosvāmi (narrating to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Ardhanārīśvara
Type: stotra
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: creative
Offering: pushpa
It highlights the Shaiva ideal that the Divine is not distant: Śiva and Pārvatī, as the all-pervading reality (jaganmaya), reveal that true worship culminates in recognizing the Lord’s presence in all—where devotion and grace mirror each other.
The verse emphasizes arcana (worship) in a personal, Saguna mode—seeing Parameśvara as approachable and radiant. Linga-worship similarly trains the devotee to honor the Supreme in a concrete form while realizing His cosmic pervasion.
Practice mutual reverence through daily Śiva-pūjā: offer water, bilva leaves, and mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), cultivating the attitude that the Lord and His Śakti pervade the entire world.
