Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga passage; this verse functions as a sabhā/pariṣad (assembly) catalogue of ṛṣis attending a Śaiva event, establishing Vedic authority and witness for the ensuing rite.
Significance: Merit accrues through śravaṇa (hearing) of Śiva-kathā in the presence of realized seers; the gathering models sat-saṅga as a means for loosening pāśa (bondage).
The verse lists revered Vedic seers, signaling that the Shaiva narration is upheld by rishi-authority and transmitted in a sanctified assembly—emphasizing satsanga and śraddhā as supports for devotion to Pati (Śiva).
By placing eminent rishis and Bṛhaspati in the narrative setting, the text frames Saguna Śiva worship (including Liṅga-upāsanā) as consistent with Vedic lineage and guru-paramparā, not merely personal sentiment.
The implied practice is honoring guru and rishi-tradition: approach Śiva-kathā with purity, listen in a sacred gathering, and support it with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) as the foundational Shaiva discipline.
