तारकपीडितदेवशरणागतिḥ — The Devas Seek Refuge from Tāraka
brahmovāca | tejosāramidaṃ svargaṃ rājyaṃ tvaṃ paripāsi naḥ | yadarthaṃ sutapastaptaṃ vāñchasi tvaṃ tato'dhikam
Brahma
Tattva Level: pasha
The verse contrasts worldly or celestial attainments (Svarga and sovereignty) with a higher aim sought through tapas—hinting that the true seeker aspires beyond temporary pleasures toward Shiva’s supreme grace and liberation.
In the Rudrasaṃhitā’s devotional frame, even exalted heavenly status is not the final goal; the higher “more than this” is fulfilled through devotion to Saguna Shiva (often centered on Linga worship) that matures into Shiva’s saving grace.
The direct practice implied is disciplined tapas—steady vows, restraint, and Shiva-oriented worship; in Shiva Purana practice this is commonly supported by japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with purity observances.
