Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Jyotirlinga: Vaidyanātha
Sthala Purana: Vaidyanātheśvara-māhātmya is concluded: hearing (śravaṇa) of the Lord’s glory is said to burn sins to ashes—echoing Śiva as the supreme healer who cures the disease of saṃsāra and pāpa.
Significance: Śravaṇa of the māhātmya and darśana/abhisheka are credited with pāpa-kṣaya and spiritual purification; supports bhakti leading toward Śiva’s anugraha.
Type: stotra
Role: liberating
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that śravaṇa (devout listening) to the Jyotirliṅga-māhātmya is itself a purifying sādhanā: by Shiva’s grace, accumulated pāpa is burned like fuel in fire, preparing the seeker for bhakti and liberation.
Vaidyanātheśvara is praised as a manifest (saguṇa) Jyotirliṅga; hearing His māhātmya strengthens faith and devotion toward the Liṅga, which in Shaiva Siddhanta becomes a doorway to realizing Shiva’s transcendent (nirguṇa) reality through grace.
Regularly listen to or recite the Vaidyanātha Jyotirliṅga māhātmya with श्रद्धा (faith), ideally alongside Liṅga-pūjā, offering bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) and repeating the Pañcākṣarī mantra “Om Namaḥ Śivāya.”
