Rig Veda 10.31.8: Mandala 10, Sukta 31, Mantra 8

Sukta 10.31

Rishi: Kavaṣa Ailūṣa (traditional; uncertain)
Devata: The Bull as supreme upholder (cosmic generative power); Sūrya as truth-light; Dyāvā-Pṛthivī upheld
Chandas: Triṣṭubh

नैतावदेना परो अन्यदस्त्युक्षा स द्यावापृथिवी बिभर्ति । त्वचं पवित्रं कृणुत स्वधावान्यदीं सूर्यं न हरितो वहन्ति ॥

náitā́vad enā́ paráḥ anyád asty ukṣā́ sá dyā́vā-pṛthivī́ bibharti | tvácaṃ pavítraṃ kṛṇuta svadhā́vān yád īṃ sū́ryaṃ ná haríto vahanti ||

Beyond this there is no other than That: the Bull, he upholds Heaven and Earth. He makes his covering a purifier, self-lawed in power, when the bright steeds bear the Sun (forward).
