The Slaying of Kumbhakarna
निकृत्तबाहुद्विनिकृत्तपादोविदार्यवक्त्रंबडबामुखाभम् ।दुद्रावरामंसहसाभिगर्जन् राहुर्यथाचन्द्रमिवान्तऽरिक्षे ।।।।
nikṛttabāhu-dvinikṛttapādo vidārya vaktraṃ baḍabāmukhābham |
dudrāva rāmaṃ sahasābhigarjan rāhur yathā candram ivāntarikṣe ||
اگرچہ اس کے بازو اور پاؤں کٹ چکے تھے، اس نے بڑواگنی (سمندری آگ) کی طرح اپنا منہ کھولا اور اچانک گرجتے ہوئے رام کی طرف ایسے لپکا جیسے راہو آسمان میں چاند کی طرف لپکتا ہے۔
Arms broken, feet cut off, dilating his mouth like fire, shouting aloud like Rahu entering moon in the sky he rushed to Rama speedily.
The simile frames the assault as an eclipse-like act of adharma—violent obstruction of the righteous—highlighting that such forceful aggression is transient and ultimately overcome, as eclipses pass and order is restored.
By depicting adharma as terrifying yet unstable, the verse supports the Ramayana’s moral claim that Satya and righteous resolve endure: even when confronted by overwhelming menace, the truth-aligned hero remains the steady center against which falsehood and rage exhaust themselves.
