Dialogue with Guha: Account of Rama’s Night Halt
kaccin na lakṣmaṇe putra śrutaṃ te kiṃcid apriyam | putre vā 'py ekaputrāyāḥ sahabhārye vanaṃ gate ||
O my son, I hope you have not heard any unpleasant news about Lakshmana orabout my only son Rama who has gone to the forest along with his wife.
Family dharma and compassion: a mother’s rightful concern seeks truthful news while remaining within the bounds of propriety and care.
Kausalyā, anxious about Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa after the exile, questions Bharata, hoping no further harm has occurred.
Kausalyā’s tender concern and moral seriousness—her worry is for the well-being of those committed to dharma in exile.
