Banners of varying colours and flags were raised on the temples looking resplendent like peaks wreathed by a mass of white clouds, at the cross-roads, on the thoroughfares, on the trees standing on avenues, on the towers and stalls of the merchants abounding in various kinds of merchandise, on prosperous and gracefulhouses of house-holders, in all public halls and on trees looking tall from a distance.
The verse illustrates the Dharma of communal celebration and shared joy. The citizens' spontaneous decoration of the entire city reflects the principle that a righteous king's coronation is a sacred event that unites all sections of society - merchants, householders, and common people - in collective celebration.
Upon hearing that Rama would be crowned the next day, the citizens of Ayodhya enthusiastically decorate the entire city. Flags and banners are raised everywhere - on temples, crossroads, merchant stalls, houses, assembly halls, and trees - transforming Ayodhya into a festive spectacle.
The virtue of Prajapriya (being beloved of the people) is emphasized through Rama. The citizens' joy and elaborate preparations reflect Rama's worthiness as a ruler who has earned the love and devotion of all sections of society through his righteous conduct.
