Sandhi Resolution Notes: paṃcayojanavistīrṇaṃ = pañca-yojana-vistīrṇam; rakṣaṇārthāya = rakṣaṇa-arthāya; pāpakarmanivāraṇāḥ = pāpa-karma-nivāraṇāḥ.
It describes Prayāga as having a defined sacred “maṇḍala” (ritual-cosmic circuit) spanning five yojanas, presenting the tīrtha as a bounded, protected holy landscape rather than a single spot.
By portraying Prayāga as a divinely protected space where sin is removed, it supports a bhakti-oriented worldview in which approaching a sacred place with reverence and surrender facilitates purification and spiritual progress.
The verse underscores moral accountability—sinful actions have consequences—while also affirming that reform and purification are possible through seeking protected sacred contexts and cultivating righteous conduct.
