The Slaying of Vṛtrāsura

स्पर्शने च स्फुलिंगानामुभयोः सेनयोर्भटाः । न शक्ताः संमुखे स्थातुं शलभा ज्वलने यथा

sparśane ca sphuliṃgānāmubhayoḥ senayorbhaṭāḥ | na śaktāḥ saṃmukhe sthātuṃ śalabhā jvalane yathā

اور جب چنگاریاں چھوئیں تو دونوں لشکروں کے سورما آمنے سامنے ٹھہر نہ سکے—جیسے بھڑکتی آگ کے سامنے پروانے۔

Narrator (contextual battle description; specific speaker not identifiable from the single verse)

Concept: Even the brave lose steadiness when confronted with overwhelming heat of conflict; fear reveals the limits of mere physical valor.

Application: When emotions ‘burn’ (stress, anger), don’t force confrontation; pause, cool the mind, and seek a higher principle or mentor before acting.

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A rain of sparks sweeps across the front lines; warriors raise shields and turn their faces away, unable to hold their ground. The simile becomes visible: moth-like forms swirl near a blazing core, suggesting how living beings are drawn and undone by fire’s allure and terror.","primary_figures":["Deva soldiers","Daitya soldiers","Fiery sparks (as a storm)"],"setting":"Battlefield edge beneath a spark-filled sky; scattered weapons, toppled standards, dust and smoke.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["ash white","ember orange","charcoal black","blood red","steel blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: a dense tableau of warriors recoiling from a shower of gold-leaf sparks, faces turned away, shields lifted; use raised gold for the spark-storm, deep maroons and greens for armor, and ornate borders; the central blaze should have a gilded aura like a deity’s halo, emphasizing tejas.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: fine, airy composition with delicate sparks like tiny gold dots across an indigo-gray sky; small figures stepping back in synchronized motion; subtle expressions of fear, refined linework, and a cool palette punctuated by warm ember highlights.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized soldiers in profile with bold outlines, eyes widened; sparks as rhythmic red-yellow stippling; a strong horizontal composition like a temple frieze, with simplified weapons and banners.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: decorative spark motifs arranged like floral bursts; rows of figures retreating in patterned rhythm; ornate border of flames and lotus petals, using deep blue ground with gold and vermilion detailing."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"dramatic","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"emotional","sound_elements":["crackling fire","shouts fading","wind gusts","drum rolls","sudden silence"]}

FAQs

It compares warriors unable to face each other amid flying sparks to moths that cannot withstand a blazing fire.

The meeting of forces is portrayed as dangerously overwhelming—so fierce that even brave fighters falter when confronted directly.

Primarily it is vivid narrative description; indirectly it conveys how raw destructive power can humble even the strong.
