FAQs

In Dharma and ritual literature, the southern direction is traditionally associated with the Pitṛs; facing south signifies directing the offering toward the ancestral realm.

The phrase “tṛpyatām” (“may you be satisfied”) explicitly states the intention of tarpaṇa—satiating and honoring the ancestors through the libation and invocation.

Naming and specifying gotra identifies the intended recipients of the rite, personalizing the offering and aligning it with customary ancestral remembrance and ritual precision.
