Boon, Portents, and Cosmic Restoration

देवा ऊचुः । वरप्रदानाद्भगवन्वधिष्यति स नोऽसुरः । तत्प्रसादश्च भगवन्वधोप्यस्य विचिंत्यताम्

devā ūcuḥ | varapradānādbhagavanvadhiṣyati sa no'suraḥ | tatprasādaśca bhagavanvadhopyasya viciṃtyatām

دیوتاؤں نے کہا: “اے بھگوان، ور کے عطا ہونے کے سبب وہ اسور ہمیں قتل کر ڈالے گا۔ لہٰذا، اے پروردگار، مہربانی فرما کر یہ بھی سوچئے کہ اسے کیسے مارا جائے اور آپ کی عنایت (اور ور کی حرمت) بھی کیسے برقرار رہے۔”

In Purāṇic narratives, boons (vara) can make an asura powerful or conditionally invulnerable; the Devas acknowledge that the threat arises specifically because the boon empowered him.

It suggests a balance: the Lord is asked to end the demon’s threat without violating the moral and cosmic principle that a granted boon should not be rendered false.

Power obtained through favors or boons must still be accountable to dharma; when it is abused, restoration of order should be pursued without undermining truthfulness and integrity.
