Śarva (Śiva)

Concept: Power must be contained and properly placed; restraint (lajjā, virati) is itself a force that shapes cosmic outcomes.

Application: Practice self-restraint; when excess energy creates imbalance, channel it responsibly rather than suppressing it indefinitely.

Primary Rasa: raudra

Secondary Rasa: bibhatsa

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Śiva, severe and luminous, gestures with commanding authority as Agni—still bearing boar-form traits—bows with folded hands, flames subdued into a controlled halo. The moment is both visceral and cosmic: a transfer of tejas portrayed as a glowing, liquid-gold essence hovering between Śiva’s palm and Agni’s mouth, symbolizing containment of overwhelming power.","primary_figures":["Śarva (Śiva)","Agni (Pāvaka)"],"setting":"austere divine hermitage edge with sacrificial implements, ash lines, and a faintly visible Devī’s sanctified presence implied by a radiant veil or lotus-throne silhouette","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["molten gold","smoke grey","deep vermilion","midnight blue","ivory white"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Śiva enthroned under a prabhāvali, right hand extended in command; Agni kneeling with añjali, boar-aspect subtly shown in snout/tusks; the tejas depicted as gold-leaf liquid stream with embossed highlights; rich reds/greens, gem-studded ornaments, ornate arch and floral borders.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate court-like hermitage scene; Śiva’s stern face rendered with refined lines, Agni humble; the tejas as a delicate golden ribbon; muted blues and greys with warm gold accents, sparse trees and a small yajña altar in the background.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: stylized Śiva with bold outlines and large eyes, Agni with flame-crown; tejas as a bright yellow-gold band; red/yellow/green pigments, temple-wall composition with symmetrical ornamentation.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central figures framed by lotus and flame borders; gold detailing on the tejas stream; deep blue ground, intricate floral motifs; adapt Nathdwara ornamentation to depict Śiva’s command and Agni’s submission."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"dramatic","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"fast-dramatic","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["sharp damaru beat","fire roar softened","metallic bell strike","ritual chanting undertone"]}

FAQs

Agni is invoked as a cosmic purifier and carrier: Śiva instructs him to receive (drink) the remaining potency, indicating that divine energy is transferred and safeguarded through a ritual-cosmic agent.

It presents a creation-motif where divine potency (vīrya) is apportioned and transmitted, showing how cosmic events proceed through controlled distribution of power among deities.

The verse frames power as something to be governed: even divine potency is depicted as regulated by self-control, suggesting that restraint is a virtue that prevents disorder and directs energy toward purposeful outcomes.
