Unspecified (narrative voice not provided in the input excerpt)

Concept: External marks (matted hair, rites, vows) without yoga, saṅkalpa, and brahmacarya become dambha (hypocrisy).

Application: Audit one’s practices: keep vows realistic, renew saṅkalpa daily, avoid spiritual branding; align outer observance with inner restraint and compassion.

Primary Rasa: bibhatsa

Secondary Rasa: raudra

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A false ascetic with exaggerated matted hair and ostentatious garb performs a public rite while shadows behind him reveal hidden indulgence and broken vows. In contrast, a quiet sincere practitioner sits nearby with simple clothing and steady gaze, the only one surrounded by a soft, clean aura.","primary_figures":["hypocritical ascetic (dambhī)","sincere brahmacārī/yogin","villagers/onlookers"],"setting":"Village-edge shrine with a small altar, smoke from offerings, and a crowd; a side path leads to a quiet grove where sincerity resides.","lighting_mood":"dramatic chiaroscuro","color_palette":["smoke gray","rust red","dirty ochre","midnight blue","pale gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: split-scene composition—left: flamboyant false ascetic with heavy ornaments and theatrical ritual; right: humble yogin with calm halo; gold leaf used ironically on the showy side and as a pure aura on the sincere side, rich reds/greens, ornate border framing moral contrast.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: narrative vignette with delicate expressions—crowd admiring the pretender, while a small sincere figure sits under a tree; cool palette, subtle satire, refined linework, gentle but clear moral contrast.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlined figures, exaggerated eyes for the pretender, stylized smoke and ritual objects; strong red-yellow-green palette, flat iconic staging, clear didactic symbolism.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: symbolic tableau with patterned borders—dark floral motifs around hypocrisy, bright lotus motifs around sincerity; deep blue ground, gold detailing, ornamental symmetry, moral allegory rendered as textile iconography."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"dramatic","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["sharp temple bell strikes","murmuring crowd","wind gust","sudden silence"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: अयोगकेशधरणमसंकल्प = अयोगकेशधरणम् + असंकल्प (म् + अ → म); स्याद्दंभसंज्ञितं = स्यात् + दंभसंज्ञितम् (त् + द् → द्द्)।

FAQs

The verse lists three marks of hypocrisy: ascetic appearance without real yoga, vows/rituals done without sincere intention (saṃkalpa), and behavior contrary to brahmacarya (celibate discipline).

Because observances become mere performance when the inner resolve and ethical commitment are absent; the text treats such practice as pretence rather than dharma.

Spiritual life is measured by inner discipline and integrity, not external signs; religious appearance and ritual must be aligned with genuine self-restraint and intention.
