Narrator (Purāṇic narration within Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa; specific dialogue speaker not explicit in this single verse)

Concept: Avidyā expresses itself in graded forms—tamas, moha, mahāmoha, tāmisra, and andha—arising during meditation-driven creation; recognizing these layers is the first step to transcendence.

Application: Name your inner veils: inertia (tamas), confusion (moha), obsessive attachment (mahāmoha), resentful darkness (tāmisra), and blind compulsion (andha). Use daily japa, ekādaśī restraint, and sattvic diet to thin them.

Primary Rasa: bhayanaka

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A meditating cosmic Lord radiates stillness while five concentric shadow-layers spiral outward—each darker and more constricting than the last—forming symbolic masks of delusion. Within the shadows, faint silhouettes of beings stumble, suggesting how consciousness becomes veiled as creation thickens.","primary_figures":["Viṣṇu (as the meditating Mahātman)","personified veils: Tamas, Moha, Mahāmoha, Tāmisra, Andha"],"setting":"Abstract cosmic mandala-space; lotus geometry overlaid with five dark rings and subtle glyph-like patterns.","lighting_mood":"moonlit","color_palette":["ink black","ash gray","deep violet","cold silver","sapphire blue"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: central meditating Viṣṇu with brilliant gold leaf aura; five surrounding rings rendered with textured dark enamels; each veil personified as a small demon-like or mask-faced figure at cardinal points; ornate gold borders and jewel-toned highlights.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: serene blue Viṣṇu seated in meditation on a pale lotus; translucent washes of violet-gray forming five halos; delicate linework for symbolic masks, minimalistic yet evocative Himalayan-sky palette.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlines; central Viṣṇu with large eyes half-closed; five stylized dark bands with patterned motifs; personified veils as dramatic faces in red-black tones, temple-wall symmetry.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: mandala composition with lotus petals; five dark circular borders like night-lotus layers; central Viṣṇu icon; intricate floral filigree in silver-gold on indigo cloth, symbolic masks integrated into border medallions."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes:

FAQs

They denote five modes of spiritual ignorance described as arising in creation: basic darkness (tamas), delusion/attachment (moha), intensified delusion (mahāmoha), obscuring gloom that leads to confusion and agitation (tāmisra), and ‘blindness’ (andha) where discernment is lost.

It indicates that a particular phase of creation is characterized by five tamasic conditions (forms of ignorance) manifesting as distinct states, presented as a structured fivefold classification.

It frames ignorance and delusion as fundamental obstacles arising within worldly existence; the implied lesson is to cultivate discernment and spiritual knowledge to move beyond these tamasic states.
