Concept: A person’s very name and reputation can arise from association with dharmic acts; witnessing vrata becomes an identity-defining samskāra.

Application: Choose what you ‘stand near’—people, practices, and vows—because repeated exposure shapes your character and how the world knows you.

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: vira

FAQs

Yes. The verse explicitly mentions a vrata “being performed by a Śūdra” (śūdreṇa kriyamāṇasya vratasya), indicating the narrative acknowledges such observances.

The verse presents an etymological/naming explanation: Devas and Dānavas apply the name “Virocana” because of an event connected with being seen (darśanāt) during a Śūdra’s vow.

It highlights the religious significance of vrata-practice and suggests that spiritual recognition (darśana) and sacred narrative attention can extend beyond social rank, focusing on the act of devotion/observance itself.
