Concept: Sacred time intensifies merit: perform tri-piṇḍa śrāddha on parva-days; perform ekoddiṣṭa on the death-day—dharma is rhythmic and calendrical.

Application: Keep a remembrance calendar; use significant days (transitions, anniversaries) for charity, prayer, and family reconciliation; treat time as sacred resource.

FAQs

Ekoddiṣṭa śrāddha is a rite directed to a single recently deceased person, prescribed here for the day of death; tripiṇḍa śrāddha involves offering three piṇḍas and is prescribed here for recurring sacred occasions like saṅkrānti and eclipses.

They are treated as parva-days—religiously potent times—when ancestral rites are considered especially efficacious and therefore recommended for śrāddha observance.

It lays down a simple schedule: perform ekoddiṣṭa śrāddha on the death-day itself, and thereafter perform tripiṇḍa śrāddha on significant observance-days such as saṅkrānti, eclipses, and similar parvas.
