Unspecified narrator addressing Śaunaka (likely a sage in dialogue context)

Concept: The promised fruit is total tīrtha-snānaphala and liberation from sins; the text now transitions into a sin-destroying māhātmya teaching.

Application: Make time for daily śravaṇa—listening/reading sacred narratives; let instruction shape conduct; use spiritual learning as a steady purification practice.

Primary Rasa: vira

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Type: tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A sage-assembly sits in a forest hermitage, with Śaunaka prominent among attentive listeners. The narrator-sage raises a hand in teaching gesture, as if opening a scroll of māhātmya; behind him, a symbolic halo shows many tīrthas—ghāṭas, rivers, temples—converging into a single luminous point of purification.","primary_figures":["Śaunaka","teaching sage/narrator (unspecified)","assembled ṛṣis"],"setting":"Naimiṣāraṇya-like forest āśrama with sacrificial fire, deer, and quiet trees; palm-leaf manuscripts nearby.","lighting_mood":"forest dappled","color_palette":["sage green","smoke gray","sandalwood beige","vermillion","golden amber"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: sage addressing Śaunaka and ṛṣis in an ornate āśrama; gold leaf halos and borders; a symbolic mandala of many tīrthas behind the speaker; rich reds/greens, embossed details on manuscripts and yajña vessels, traditional iconographic composition.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: refined forest hermitage with delicate foliage; sages seated in semicircle; Śaunaka attentive; soft dappled light; a faint translucent tīrtha-mandala in the sky; cool palette and lyrical calm.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: iconic sage assembly with bold outlines; yajña-kuṇḍa at center; speaker’s teaching mudrā emphasized; red/yellow/green palette; decorative borders with stylized leaves and sacred symbols.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: narrative panel of sages listening; ornate floral borders, peacocks at corners; deep blue-green ground with gold; a central tīrtha-mandala motif above the speaker like a hanging tapestry of holy places."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative","suggested_raga":"Bhupali","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"authoritative","sound_elements":["crackling sacrificial fire","forest birds","soft chanting","silence between verses"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: स स्नातः = सः + स्नातः; सर्वतीर्थेषु (समास) = सर्व + तीर्थेषु; पापनाशनम् (समास) = पाप + नाशनम्.

FAQs

It equates attentive hearing of a sin-destroying sacred glorification (māhātmya) with the purifying merit of bathing at all pilgrimage sites, implying śravaṇa (listening) itself can confer purification.

Literally “bathed in all tīrthas,” it functions as a hyperbolic marker of complete ritual purification, often used to praise a practice (here, listening to the māhātmya) as spiritually equivalent to extensive pilgrimage.

It encourages sincere listening and receptivity to sacred instruction, presenting inner transformation through dharmic teaching as a powerful and accessible means of purification, not dependent solely on physical travel.
