Buddhi (personified Intelligence)

Concept: Buddhi identifies herself and requests attentive listening: discernment functions as a messenger of higher principles; hearing (śravaṇa) is required for right action.

Application: Practice ‘inner śravaṇa’: when clarity arises, listen fully before reacting; in relationships, announce intention transparently and communicate messages faithfully.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: vira

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Buddhi arrives before a ‘mahābhāga’ seated on a lotus-seat, her hands holding a scroll sealed with a lotus emblem. She speaks with calm authority, while behind her the five elemental great ones appear as faint guardian silhouettes, indicating the weight of cosmic order carried in her message.","primary_figures":["Buddhi","Mahābhāga (fortunate recipient—king/sage/self-personification)","Five Mahābhūta great ones (subtle background)"],"setting":"Lotus-seat audience chamber that blends palace and inner sanctum; pillars etched with pañca-bhūta symbols; quiet, sacred ambience.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["lamp gold","copper red","midnight blue","jade green","cream"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Buddhi standing in añjali with a message-scroll before a lotus-seated noble recipient; gold leaf lamps and halos, rich red-green drapery, gem-studded ornaments; faint five-element guardians in the background as gilded silhouettes; ornate prabhāvalī arch.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate courtly meeting—Buddhi delivering a scroll to a serene seated figure; delicate brushwork, cool blues with warm lamp glow, refined facial features, subtle background silhouettes of elemental guardians like misty forms.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: Buddhi with bold outlined features and expressive eyes, holding a scroll; seated recipient on lotus throne; lamp-lit temple interior with pañca-bhūta motifs; saturated reds/yellows/greens with deep blue field.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central lotus throne with the recipient, Buddhi approaching with scroll; border filled with lotus vines and pañca-bhūta emblems; deep indigo cloth, gold highlights, intricate floral patterns, symmetrical composition."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: बुद्धिः + महाभाग → बुद्धिर्महाभाग; पार्श्वात् + तेषाम् → पार्श्वात्तेषाम् (त्-आगम/द्वित्व)

FAQs

Buddhi (Intelligence) speaks, presenting herself as a messenger sent from the “great ones” (mahatām) to deliver their instruction.

The verse highlights receptivity: one should listen attentively to the counsel and message conveyed by wise and virtuous authorities.

Indirectly, it supports a core devotional ethic—humble listening (śravaṇa) to authoritative guidance—though the verse itself is framed more broadly as receiving the message of the great.
