Dialogue of Father and Son (Pitṛputra-saṃvāda) — Mohinī Episode
kaccinna vāsare viṣṇornarā bhuṃjaṃti putraka | śaśini kṣīṇatāṃ prāpte kaccicchrāddhaparo naraḥ || 29 ||
Narada
Vrata: Viṣṇu-vāra upavāsa (Viṣṇu’s sacred day; likely Ekādaśī/Viṣṇu-related fasting, but not explicitly named)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
The verse links two pillars of dharma—Viṣṇu-oriented restraint (vrata/niyama) and ancestral duty (śrāddha)—showing that devotion is expressed through disciplined conduct and timely rites.
Bhakti here is not only emotion but practice: honoring Viṣṇu’s sacred day through abstention/fasting and maintaining reverence for dharma by performing śrāddha at the proper lunar time.
It points to Jyotiṣa-based timing: observing rites according to the Moon’s waning phase (tithi/pakṣa awareness), which governs when śrāddha and related duties are appropriately performed.
