The Narration of the Navamī Vow Observed Across the Twelve Months
brāhmaṇaśreṣṭaḥ sarvāsāmādhipatye'bhiṣecitā | tasmāttāṃ pūjayeccātra sopavāso jiteṃdriyaḥ || 7 ||
Narada (teaching in the Purva-bhaga narrative frame, traditionally within the Narada–Sanatkumara dialogue flow)
Vrata: Mātṛ-vrata / Bhadrakālī-Yoginī worship (contextual)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that worship becomes spiritually potent when paired with vrata-like discipline—fasting (upavāsa) and control of the senses (jitendriya)—rather than being a mere external act.
Bhakti here is expressed as reverent pūjā offered with inner restraint; devotion is validated by self-regulation and sincerity, not only by ritual performance.
The verse emphasizes ritual discipline (prayoga/ācāra) central to Purāṇic worship practice—fasting rules and sense-restraint as practical components of a vrata.
