This verse functions as an Anukramanika (index): it signals the Purana’s intent to cover dharma in society (rāja-dharma), cosmic signs (utpāta), and celestial events (grahaṇa), showing that spiritual life is guided by both ethics and scriptural interpretation of phenomena.
Indirectly: by listing rāja-dharma and grahaṇa-related discussions, it frames bhakti as lived within ordered duty and sacred time—where devotion is supported by righteous governance and by observing/understanding auspicious and inauspicious periods described in Purāṇic teaching.
Grahana (eclipses) points to Jyotiṣa Vedāṅga (Vedic astronomy/astrology) and its ritual-time implications; utpāta discussion aligns with traditional omen-lore used alongside Jyotiṣa for interpreting unusual events in a dharmic framework.
