Matsya Purana — Brahmā’s Four Faces, Shloka 5

वेदाभ्यासरतस्यास्य प्रजाकामस्य मानसाः मनसः पूर्वसृष्टा वै जाता यत् तेन मानसाः //

vedābhyāsaratasyāsya prajākāmasya mānasāḥ manasaḥ pūrvasṛṣṭā vai jātā yat tena mānasāḥ //

وہ ویدوں کے अभ्यास میں مشغول اور اولاد کا خواہاں تھا؛ اس لیے ابتدا میں مخلوقات اُس کے ذہن ہی سے پیدا ہوئیں۔ چونکہ وہ ذہن سے جنم لیں، اس لیے ‘مانس’ کہلائیں۔
