Sāvitrī’s Report and Nārada’s Prognosis (सावित्र्याख्यान—सत्यवान्-गुणवर्णनं तथा अल्पायुषः पूर्वसूचना)
वसतस्तस्य रामस्य तत: शूर्पणखाकृतम् । खरेणासीन्महद् वैरं जनस्थाननिवासिना
vasatas tasya rāmasya tataḥ śūrpaṇakhākṛtam | khareṇāsīn mahad vairaṁ janasthānanivāsinā ||
وہاں قیام کے دوران شُورپَنکھا کے ساتھ جو کچھ کیا گیا (اس کی ناک، کان اور ہونٹ کاٹے گئے)، اسی سبب جنَستھان کے رہنے والے راکشس خَر کے ساتھ رام کی بڑی دشمنی پیدا ہو گئی۔

Actions—especially violent or humiliating ones—carry consequences that can expand beyond the immediate moment, crystallizing into long-term enmity. The verse implicitly cautions that retaliation and dishonor often escalate conflict rather than resolve it, challenging one to consider restraint and foresight within dharma.
Rama is living in the forest region; due to the incident involving Śūrpaṇakhā (her mutilation), Khara of Janasthāna becomes Rama’s bitter enemy. This marks the emergence of a major antagonism that will drive subsequent confrontations.
