Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca: Uktaṁ bhagavatā janma Rāmādīnāṁ pṛthak pṛthak | Prasthāna-kāraṇaṁ brahman śrotum icchāmi kathyatām ||

یُدھشٹھِر نے کہا— اے برہمن! آپ نے رام اور اُن کے بھائیوں کی پیدائش کا حال تو الگ الگ سنا دیا۔ اب میں اُن کے روانہ ہونے کی وجہ سننا چاہتا ہوں؛ مہربانی فرما کر بیان کیجیے۔ کس سبب سے دشرَتھ کے دلیر بیٹے، شری رام اور لکشمن، اور میتھلا کے راجہ کی نامور دختر سیتا کے ساتھ، جنگل کو گئے؟
