भीष्मस्य सेनापत्यप्रतिज्ञा तथा रथसंख्यावर्णनम् | Bhishma Accepts Command and Enumerates Kaurava Strength

एतदर्थ मया तात पज्च ग्रामा वृता: पुरा । कथं तव सुद्दुर्बुद्धे न प्रेक्षे व्यसनं महत्‌,“तात! इसीलिये पहले मैंने केवल पाँच ही गाँव माँगे थे। दुर्बुद्धे! मेरे ऐसा करनेका यही उद्देश्य था कि किसी तरह तेरे ऊपर महान्‌ संकट आया हुआ न देखूँ

etadarthaṃ mayā tāta pañca grāmā vṛtāḥ purā | kathaṃ tava suddurbuddhe na prekṣe vyasanaṃ mahat ||

“اے بچے! اسی لیے میں نے پہلے صرف پانچ گاؤں مانگے تھے۔ اے سخت کم عقل! میرا مقصد یہی تھا کہ میں تم پر کوئی بڑی آفت آتی ہوئی نہ دیکھوں۔”
